1949 Ford Flathead

Another project we’ll call "freshening" a 49 Ford Fathead. A customer had purchased this award winning 49 Ford pickup about 2 years ago and brought it to us for some work.  It was overheating and had a small engine noise.

Another photo from the Performance world car show in Toronto where this gorgeous truck won best in class and best interior. This truck features an original flathead with aluminum heads, twin carbs, a mustang 2 front suspension, automatic transmission and air ride rear end.
After working on the overheating problem we turned our attention to the noise we could hear. Upon further investigation we determined the noise required removing and dismantling the engine to ensure proper repairs. We sent the motor to a flathead expert who found several broken lifters and enough wear to require a complete rebuild. Protecting the mile deep orange paint was difficult.
The motor had a couple of oil leaks and a lot of the paint was pealing due to being overheated. The quality of this vehicle demanded a new paint job as well as detailing all the little pieces.
Here you can see the automatic transmission that was never available from the factory. The beautiful paint job is on every panel including the engine compartment and inside the box.
The engine is reinstalled now and we are finishing all the little details. The oil filter canister bolted to the firewall is an after market accessory as these engines had no oil filters from the factory.
A little fresh paint on a new rebuild and we are ready for many miles of fun driving.
These photos show the award winning interior. A modified S10 pickup seat, custom carpets and headliner and an upholstered box mean no more loads for this old workhorse.
